Winding through 2,000 miles of mountains from Georgia to Maine, the Appalachian Trail is a hiker's test of strength and endurance. For Bob Mountford and Susan Ramsey, to travel the entire trail was a dream, an adventure—a chance to raise money for
charity and to explore young love. They did not count on meeting Randall Lee Smith—a human time bomb waiting to explode. On a warm Virginia night the two hikers walked into the last horritying moments of their lives.
The search for a killer nobody had seen covered five states and became one of the most exhaustive manhunts in Virginia history. From the sordid recesses of a murderer's mind to the violent even of that tateful night... here is the riveting story that shocked the country.
